Dormant Volcanoes.
A dormant volcano is considered a volcano in which it has not erupted in a while but is expected to erupt again. A dormant volcano may stay dormant for a very long period of time. Sometimes it can be difficult to understand if a volcano is either dormant or extinct.
Examples of Dormant Volcanoes
An example of a dormant volcano is Mount Kilimanjaro. It has a height of 5,895 meters and is the highest mountain in Africa. Mount Kilimanjaro also has 3 volcanic cones. The last major eruption was between 150,000-200,000 years ago.
One of the more famous volcanoes, Yellowstone is in fact a dormant volcano. Yellowstone has not erupted in 640,000 but is overdue to erupt and the eruption may just be a super eruption. It is also known as the Yellowstone Caldera or Yellowstone Supervolcano.
Mount Fuji located in Japan (60km south east from Tokyo) is indeed a dormant volcano. Mount Fuji is considered to be one of the 3 holy mountains in Japan. It has a height of 3,776 meters.
